Sigurjón Jóhannsson

Sigurjón Jóhannsson was born in Siglufjörður in 1939, and studied art and architecture in Italy. He also pursued studies at the Icelandic art school and was one of the founders of SÚM group in 1965. He lived for a time in Copenhagen studying set and costume design and worked with the Icelandic National Theatre, among other theaters for decades. The strong influence of the theater and costumes, along with the fluid movements of workers depicted on the herring piers have lead to comparisons with the work of Chagall.

Lyrical, watercolours, 1995.
